If you are looking for a place for a city walk, Venlo might not be the first place that comes to mind. Yet this city has a surprising mix of history, modern design and urban nature to offer. Put on your walking shoes for a beautiful route!
Julianapark
Venlo is a Hanseatic city on the Meuse that was voted Best City Center 2013-2015 in the category Medium-sized City Centers. Here you will find the Limburgs Museum and Museum van Bommel van Dam. The Julianapark was a country estate until the nineteenth century, after which it served as a marshalling yard for the railway connection to Hamburg until the Second World War.
Town Hall
Further on you walk along the Wilhelminapark from 1870, on the edge you see some beautiful villas. A remnant of the Fossa Eugeniana flows through the Burgemeester Bergerpark: a seventeenth-century unfinished canal between the Rhine and the Maas. The Second World War may have destroyed much of the historic center, but there are still some monumental gems to be found in Venlo. Such as the town hall on the Markt, which originally dates from the fourteenth century.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
